Winter Survivial Guide: Tips to Staying Fashionable and Warm

This winter has reached record-breaking low temperatures and high amounts of snow. The recent winter storm that began January 5, 2014 measured “the coldest air in nearly two decades,” according to the Weather Channel. Due to the clear roads and rising-to-single-digit temperatures, people can leave their homes safely. However, I believe it is too cold to go outside. Despite the conditions, I am capable of running errands and going to school. But during this weather I tend to dress cozier. However, there are plenty of events that require dressy attire. In this blog post, I am going to style two different outfits that I would wear in the winter to provide a youthful and toasty outfit for a casual event and a dressy occasion.

In my wardrobe, I love comfort in my style. When going out-and-about during the winter season I always ensure that I won't arrive to my destination with frostbite. I will usually wear a loose sweater with a scarf, leggings and boots accompanied by thick socks. During the fall and winter I tend to wear more dark and neutral colors so my sweater will usually be either a cream or a navy blue. Scarves are used to accessorize an outfit while also providing neck warmth. This plaid scarf from Lord and Taylor is a trendy piece that can complete any cozy winter ensemble. When dressing for comfort I always wear leggings. But when the temperature reaches below freezing, make sure that my leggings are made of a thick and stretchy material. Realizing that I will walk through snow in parking lots and driveways I want to wear boots that won’t get destroyed by the snow. I recently started wearing Bean Boots by L.L. Bean that I really enjoy. These short boots contain good traction when walking on slippery surfaces. The thick material provides warmth on the toes but I always wear thick long socks pushed down as a fashion statement and a cushion of hotness. When leaving the house, I always make sure to wear a puffy coat, gloves, and a hat to disregard the cold weather!

I love wearing dresses, even in the winter. I heat up my outfit by including a pair of fleece lined tights and tall riding boots. During the winter, love wearing a long sleeved sweater dress that has a loose fitting cut to provide extra comfort. Wearing fleece lined tights preserves an extra layer of protection during this freezing season.Glamour spills that “they’re thick enough to act as leggings.” I tend to wear a classic pair ofbrown riding boots. To complete the look, I usually wear my monogrammed necklace or another statement piece of jewelry. As always when temperatures reach this low always have a coat, hat, and gloves on. I hope this post helps you when deciding how to dress with warmth and style during the ridiculously cold winter season.
